LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE
" Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven"
MATTHEW 5:16
This is a call into divine excellence by our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. He admonished the disciples to ensure that the works of their hands are so good to the extent that people will glorify Him through these glorious works. This implies that we are supposed to excel in all that we do as children of God. In our chosen careers and secular works, we are to excel. Christians must not be mediocres but must be diligent and outstanding always.
The Book of Isaiah 60 verse 1 says " Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee". We have been called to rise and shine. The glory of the LORD is evident in our lives when we rise and shine for Him. Thus, as Christians, we are to rise up and shine in all that we do. In Academics, we must shine. In the secular works, we must shine. In our societies, people must see our good works and glorify our God through us. We must exhibit good morals and values that will draw men to our God.
The Book of Proverbs 22 verse 29 says " Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. "
The word 'mean' can also be used for the word ' average' . Thus, for one to be above average, one must be diligent. To stand before kings means to be extremely outstanding. It involves diligence. It can not be achieved by doing things the normal way. One needs to work hard to be outstanding. We can deduce the following from the verses above:
- Christians need to be diligent to shine (be hardworking)
- Christians must have good works (morals, behaviour and attitude)
- Christians must arise and shine (be proactive)
Finally, the word of God in the Book of Romans 8 verse 19 says " For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God". The whole world is waiting for you and I to manifest, shine and bring glory to God Almighty through our good works and excellent deeds.
May we shine and may our God's name be glorified through our lives in Jesus mighty name.
Amen.
